Orchid Gifts for Him: Father’s Day Gift Ideas That Grow
Finding gifts for him can be tricky. Another pair of socks? A bottle of something? If you’re stuck for Father’s Day gift ideas this year, consider something a bit different: a flowering orchid. It’s striking, it’s easy to look after, and it gives him something living to keep, not another thing to put in a cupboard.
Why an orchid works as a gift for him
- It’s low maintenance. No fuss, no daily watering. A Phalaenopsis needs a drink about once a week.
- It looks sharp. Clean lines, bold flowers and a brass and gold metal pot suit a home office, a desk at work or a modern living room.
- It lasts. The flowers typically keep going for up to three months.
- It’s a bit of a challenge. Getting an orchid to flower again next year is genuinely satisfying, and plenty of dads become hooked.
Matching the orchid to the man
- The home office dad: a single-stem white orchid adds life to a desk without taking up much room.
- The bold one: purple spotted orchids are dramatic and a real talking point.
- The gardener: he’ll appreciate the quality of a nursery-grown plant. Give him a multi-stem custom orchid arrangement and our care guide to get him started.
- The minimalist: white and purple orchids are understated with a little character.
- The pet owner: Phalaenopsis orchids are listed as non-toxic to cats and dogs, so they’re a safe choice for homes with pets. Read more.

- A new job, promotion or office
- Moving into a new home. See our guide to orchids for a new home.
- Retirement
